That was a nice Christmas…

Monday, December 25th, 2006

Had a fun Christmas with Bill and Jason, a few friends who were also in town. I was a little nervous with the dinner since I was making a few new dishes-

But in the end i knew I had wine and ice cream so the last thing they’d remember would be good. :-)

We ended up playing Gears of War on the Xbox 360 and chatting the rest of the afternoon so all in all, pretty ncie holiday.

People… please back off

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

I love going to my local deli but really really dislike seeing people leaning over the counter and behind the sneeze guard to read the menu. Please, back away from my food.

The company party…

Friday, December 8th, 2006

Ok, tonight’s company party turned out to be pretty fun. Hung out with people I liked, met some people’s spouses who were pretty awesome (Rolf and Mark- your wives take top billing), and I had someone grab me to introduce me to a spouse and the introduction went a little something like this:

“This is Bill. He doesn’t care what you think of him or his project. He’s just going to get it done if he thinks it is right and won’t let anyone stop him.”

Then- the crowing moment:

(Co-worker grabs me by the hair) “You see this? No one at eBay has a pony tail! He’s a rebel!”

Second funny part was meeting Hillary’s husband, introducing myself and telling him the story of how Hillary scolded me during a meeting and said she would never let her husband dress like I do. Longer story but suffice it to say my shorts in the office and long hair were the focus of the attack. :-)

Yes, I was being mocked but it was so funny. I love seeing people outside of work and getting a sense for their real, relaxed personalities. It certainly makes working with people more fun when you know a bit more about them.

OK… seriously… WTF is up with Bush?

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

I really can’t stand the choices being made by this President and I really can’t figure out why Congress keeps going along with this junk. Nuclear favoritism to India? This is all to balance out China’s increasing presence on the global stage. Screw that! (Great argument, huh?)

We’re just a mess with our national and international policies because the man at the top and his in crowd don’t care about anything besides what they think and for the longest time (6 yrs?) America has empowered this belief.

The article in this week’s economist about James Baker distancing himself from the younger President Bush is ever so telling.

Real World drama for your mama…

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

OK… I know they take 20-ish year olds and make drinks readily available but there is more than that. I’m not sure what they’re doing but these kids have issues… some are good issues (21 yr old hot cheerleader issues - good) and some are bad issues (gay southern baptist white dude who might hate black people - not good).

I see people with so much rage and it doesn’t make good TV for me. I don’t like rage. Anger I’m comfortable with but out and out rage not so much.

I also don’t get the need to fire off racial slurs. People say Mel Gibson was drunk and can be ignored. Huh? Watching this Real World shows that position to be complete crap. This kid is going crazy and starts throwing out the slurs. Clearly the kid is drunk but that doesn’t excuse that level of rage or that reaction. I don’t think Ty is much better but it felt like that might be an editing trick to show him getting worked up on his own.

I don’t get it.

My twin?

Every few years I get asked, “Do people ever tell you that you look like Jim Carrey?”

Jim Carrey

Well, that was a fun party.

Sunday, December 3rd, 2006

We had almost 40 folks stop over last night for our open house / holiday party. Alice spent most of the night handing out food and drink but this year the crowd was mostly in the kitchen so I think she got to see everyone. The shin dig started at 4 and the last folks hung out until about 10:30. It was a good mix of folks too… people from our all different CA groups (folks that moved from Boston, both our departments, non-work friends, and Starbucks) and even some friends of friends to round it out.

The funniest comments were when non-eBay folks found other non-eBay folks. You could see the joy in their eyes. As if to say, “I won’t have to hear about work from you! Let’s be friends!”

You can see the pics here.

Was that really Survivor or was it a Saturday Night Live skit?

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

Did you see the Survivor this week? Nate was going crazy on the jury last ngiht. He was makign peace signs, doing silent shout outs, giving atta boys and all kinds of crazy shit. It seriously looked like a skit from SNL or some other exageration that would never happen in the real world. It starts with a wink at 40 seconds in and then just goes crazy every time the camera is on him. Check it out on YouTube.

  • 40 seconds in- wink
  • 1:40 - shocked face
  • 2:20 is where he starts going “yeah boi!” with his body language

BTW- I love people that go on $1M survival challenges and expect people to share food and guard their backs. They might as well give one person a paint ball gun each day with unlimited ammo and watch them. Every day someone would shoot someone else non-stop just because they can. That’s they way these people are.
